Sixteen months after being commissioned to build a Public Health Nursing gamulation, RedmerU.com is proud to announce that it has launched its initial trials with nursing students at St. David’s School of Nursing. It is the largest gamulation we have built to date containing about four hours’ worth of content.
The priorities for this project are providing education in new technologies (including distance learning); providing care for underserved and high risk populations such as the elderly, those living with HIV/AIDS, individuals with substance use disorders, people living in homelessness, and victims of domestic violence; developing skills to support practice in new and changing healthcare systems, especially on interprofessional teams; and to improve retention of nurses and enhance the care of patient populations. Maternal mortality, mental health linkage to services, opioid misuse, obesity, and HIV/AIDS will all be addressed in the project through a special focus on populations in rural, border, and underserved areas.
Students will take on the role of a public health nurse working through six different scenarios: Women’s Health Clinic, Population Assessment and Coalition Building, Community Health Improvement Planning, HIV/STD clinic, School Health, and Infectious Disease Outbreak. Each scenario is fully integrated with externally available services that are regionalized based on location. Students will be exposed to all competencies associated with public health nursing as defined the Health Resource and Services Administration and earn individual certificates for each module completed.
