After completing our initial trial at the end of last year, we are ready to launch our full trial with nurse educators across the college of nursing system. Commissioned by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in response to the American Association of College Nursing’s mandate to transition from Concept Based Education to Competency Based Education practices in nursing education, Texas State University St. David’s School of Nursing has partnered with Redmer Productions to build the Competency Based Education Gamulation to help assist nurse educators with the transition of teaching practices.
The CBE – Nursing gamulation includes scenarios across both inpatient and outpatient environments that cover the broad range of competencies outlined by the governing body. Nurse educators are first asked to answer a series of questions outlining their level of confidence (self-efficacy) with the subject matter, then must complete a knowledge assessment prior to playing through the scenarios. After a time gap, nurse educators then play through the scenarios and retake the knowledge assessment that measures their level of mastery of the subject matter.
